PARTIES APPEARING BEFORE THE TRIBUNAL
October 31, 2007
Pursuant to subsection 48.4(2) of the Canadian Human Rights Act, the Canadian
Human Rights Tribunal has issued Practice Note No. 1 – Timeliness of Hearings
and Decisions. Please go to the following link http://www.chrt-tcdp.gc.ca/about/tribunalrules_e.asp

The Tribunal is continuing its efforts to take advantage of new technologies,
to find ways for enhancing efficiencies in the Tribunal’s inquiry process
and to improve the quality of the Tribunal’s services. In turn, theses efforts
will help to reduce the costs for Canadians.
Effective July 1, 2007, the Tribunal will transition to the
use of a Digital Voice Recording (DVR) system, in place of verbatim court
reporters, for recording the verbal communications that transpire at Tribunal
hearings. DVR is a technology that is already in use in some judicial and
quasi-judicial environments across
Transcripts of hearings will no longer be provided by the Tribunal after July 1, 2007. Instead, a CD Rom recording of the verbal communications that took place at the hearing will be available on request by the parties. This innovation improves upon the quality of the Tribunal’s services by enabling the parties to re-listen to the spoken word communicated at hearings immediately following the conclusion of a hearing and, in some cases, at the end of each hearing day. Transcripts, if needed, can still be obtained by submitting the CD Rom to a transcription company of the party’s choosing.
The Tribunal is continuing to research and investigate other
technologies that will contribute to greater efficiencies of the Tribunal’s
inquiry process, to further enhance the quality of the Tribunal’s services
and also to reduce costs for Canadians. For further information regarding
the implementation of the DVR technology, please contact
